CRIME
PREVENTION TIPS
DON’T
BE A STATISTIC! HELP PREVENT AUTO THEFT
Auto
theft is a crime of opportunity. One of the biggest problems facing the
Sheriff’s Office is “puffers”. What are puffers?
Puffers are cars left running, unattended. Many times
in the winter, a person will leave their car running outside their
residences for it to warm up. Some puffers are cars
left out side stores or businesses with the intention of keeping the car
warm in cold weather. After all, you’re only going to
be inside for a minute, right? Well, a minute is all
a car thief needs. Don’t become a statistic.
The good news is, as with many crimes of opportunity, there are
things you can do to decrease your chance of becoming a victim.
*Don’t
leave your car running unattended. (Did you know that it is illegal in
the state of Colorado to leave your keys in a running vehicle? CRS
42-4-1206)
*Always
close and secure your garage door. (N0 matter the
time of day. Thieves are always looking for the split second they
need to take something you worked hard for.)
*Do
not leave
keys in your vehicle. (Even if you lock your car it only takes a second
for a car thief to break the window and make off with your car.)
*Remove
your valuables from your vehicle when you’re not in it (This is most
important when shopping at a mall or grocery store.)
*Always
lock your doors. (A car thief will look for the cars that aren’t locked
first because those are the easiest targets.)
*Report
all suspicious persons and activities to the Sheriff’s Office
immediately.
There
are no guarantees in life, however following these simple safety
suggestions will help to reduce the chances that you may become the
victim of an auto thief. To report a crime call 303-795-4711.

MUMPS OUTBREAK
- because of a large
outbreak of mumps occurring across the Midwestern United States,
Tri-County Health Department is urging parents to review their
children's immunizations records to be sure that they are up-to-date on
mumps immunizations. The MMR vaccine (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) should be
administered at ages 12 to 15 months, with a second immunization at 4 to
6 years, for a total of two doses for children under 18 years of age.
Adults should also get the MMR vaccine. Generally, anyone who was born
after 1956 should have had at least one dose, unless they can show that
they have either the MMR vaccine or the disease. Most people of this age
group have had the vaccine, because it was a requirement for enrollment
in the public school system. For more information go

Clinic at 303-784-7866.

TRAFFIC
LIGHT S. BUCKLEY RD & E.CRESTLINE AVE.
I
recently e-mailed Todd Miller Centennial City Council Member Ward
IV - last year Dave Schmit - Public Works
Director had said that the "warrants" ( a study to show the need for a
light) were met - so Todd replied to my e-mail that - the light isn't
budgeted and that in 2006 2-3 new lights may be budgeted - they
prioritize the lights based on input from the community. So, if
you want to see a light put up on that intersection - write Dave
Schmit at
dschmit@co.arapahoe.co.us - Todd did say that the light on S.
Chambers Rd & E. Crestline Ave near Piney Creek & Pioneer Hills Shopping
Center is due to go in this year- probably November.
