Annual Board of Boards Meeting

OCTOBER 14, 20098 - 18th ANNUAL Meeting of the BOARDS

Randy Pye – Mayor of Centennial – finances are in good shape – only off .035%. 38% of the budget comes from sales tax- there will be cuts in street services & concrete repairs due to the economy. In 2010 there should be an up tick in sales tax due to the opening of the Streets at Southglenn. The expenses for 2009-2010 should remain the same – 30 stores are now open and 21 more due to open in the next 60 days. Many restraunts will be located there including an Iron Chef. The Central commons will have ice skating. The forclosure rates for the city are about 1% and should go to 1.2 or 1.5 next year. Development has slowed, but they will be openingcutoms and immigration offices in Feb. 2010. IKEA will probably open in late 2011. There is lots of road work and infrastructure that needs to be done- the city is partnering with Greenwood Village on the Arapahoe Rd & I-25 intersection. The Planning department should have a Land Use code and zoning codes next year.

Ron Weidmann – City Council for the City of Centennial Ward IV – said the city is in good shape. There will be road construction at Orchard & Parker Rds. In 2010 more construction at Parker & Arapahoe Rds. They are working on parks and trails in the Cherry Creek Basin- 3 counties are involved and 300M in projects ready to go.. The Civic Center Park will cost about 6M Code enforcement- someone asked a question about this- Ron said – if they see it they enforce it- so call 303-325-8000 if you have a problem. If weeds are too high they will come out and cut them and bill the property owner.

Rod Brockenfeld – County Commissioner –said the County is doing well – revenue is based off of property taxes and probably the next assessment period will be tough. The main concern is the commercial devaluation. There has been increased funding for Tri County Health, they expanded the county court house using phased in funds, there is a new DA’s office & new courtrooms, the next expansion will be the County Jail. Someone asked about the road problem on Liverpool from Smoky Hill Rd to Arapahoe Rd

GRAYSON ROBINSON - ARAPAHOE COUNTY SHERIFF- www.arapahoesheriff.org. or grobinson@co.arapahoe.co.us the department got 5 accrediations. Next year 2 more communications centers and only one is accredited in Colorado . The City of Sheridan is partnering with Arapahoe County due to financial problems- they will be sharing the dispatch services which will enhance both areas- they have contracts for coverage in outlying areas like Deerfield, Bennett, Cherry Hills, Everbridge, etc. Tornado warnings, etc – go to the website to get signed up for warnings sent to your phone, computers, etc. H1N1 – people should be out of work at least 1 week. They had a Pandemic summit in 2006- so Tri County knows what to do. Jail expansion – there is over crowding- 150-200 are sleeping on the floor – as a solution to over crowding they are recommending modification to “good time” recalculating the time periods and they saved 2373 bed days, they are focusing on efficiencies – adding 270 beds at no tax increase – by using triple bunks which gets inmates off the floor. The terrorist event this fall was the real thing- our sheriff chairs the Homeland Security committee for the area.

Jerry Rhodes Cunningham Fire District and Jim Becker from the Fire Board- The assessed value dropped 3.2% in the district so they are having to make cuts, but no drop in service. Ambulance reimbursement rates stink from Medicare & Medicaid they only collect 62%, they may need to restructure or drop ambulance service. Sprinkler systems in homes may be required in new construction. The fire department received a nomination from Pinnacle Insurance and received a service award. The department will visit 42 schools during Fire Prevention week. They recommend if you have H1N1 you stay home – cough in your sleeve not in your hand.

Kathy Noone – CenCON – they have 56-57 homeowners associations as members over 20,000 homes in Districts 2-3-& 4 they have received many calls about the new SPROUTS building on Smoky Hill Rd-they gave opinions to Planning & Zoning- the City Council had the final say.. The Land use code is due for a rewrite.

Janet Schneider Arapahoe Library District 303-693-7449 –they are stressing literacy – in finaces & reading from babies to seniors. They have a lot of computer use. With 2 new libraries this year they may not be hiring or buying for a while and expect 2012-2013 may be hard.

Smoky Hill Metro District ( Parks & Recreation) Chris McKay – they have an election coming up in May 3 positions are open. Steve Pulford the maintenance manager has been saving money on water. In 2010 the Bonds will be paid off- they have a revenue preservation committee studying the finances and may ask for an increase.

C.J. Whelan President of the Smoky Hill Homeowners Association thanked everyone for their attendance.
